A further milestone has been achieved in the collaboration between the Audi Environmental Foundation and CLEAR RIVERS: In cooperation with Audi Hungaria, a floating litter trap made of recycled plastic has been installed in the Danube. The aim is for this trap to catch carelessly discarded waste from the Danube. The plastic is separated from the remaining waste, recycled in a closed cycle, and processed. Education programs also contribute to explaining the importance of clean bodies of water. Read more

The Audi Environmental Foundation is developing filters for urban runoff in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin. They prevent the tire wear particles and other environmentally harmful substances from being washed into sewers and bodies of water along with the rainwater. Read more

Peatland ecosystems as long-term carbon stores: Launch of the regional “CO2-Regio” feasibility study

Thanks to their high content of organic matter, peatland ecosystems are highly efficient carbon stores capable of storing more carbon dioxide than woodland covering an equivalent area. This is why the Audi Environmental Foundation and an alliance of regional municipalities, cities and administrative districts are joining forces with the EU’s LEADER* support program to fund a study researching the greenhouse gas offsetting capacity of peatland, woodland and humus. The study also aims to outline how regional farmers can repurpose their land for alternative uses and be financially rewarded for their efforts. Read more

The Volkswagen Group created the Volkswagen Climate Day in celebration of Earth Day. The focal event is #Project1Hour, a one-hour team workshop during which all employees learn about and discuss climate change and their personal commitment to protecting the climate. AUDI AG is also carrying out further events at its locations in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm in Germany; Brussels, Belgium; Győr, Hungary; and San José Chiapa, Mexico, as well as its various companies. The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) has bestowed the highest award for environmental protection and sustainability on Audi Sport. By awarding Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile recognizes Audi Sport’s environmental performance and excellent environmental awareness. Read more

The Audi Environmental Foundation, German cosmetics manufacturer BABOR and green start-up everwave have joined forces to combat the worldwide pollution of rivers with plastic waste. The three partners are planning a joint initiative for 2021 with several projects spread throughout the year. These include information events, projects at the sites of the participating partners, and cleanup activities at various locations. To kick off the program, everwave’s CollectiX waste collection boat will collect waste floating in the Danube. BABOR and the Audi Environmental Foundation are supporting the use of this boat.
